Social Investing - Will it change the way the world invests?

Social Investing is picking up fast. In 6 months or so, I have seen at least 10 new sites coming up with this paradigm in the United States.
In India too, this has taken a fancy. So, what is social investing all about?
Fundamentally, social investing (on lines of social networking) gets investors together on a common platform to discuss about investment ideas. This leads to sharing of news and views, and dissemination of information.
Social investing serves another important purpose. Unless someone is in the market day in and day out, how would she know which stocks are in the news etc. Stock ideas on social investing sites give a shortlist to start investment research on.
So, out of around 10-12 thousand stocks traded on BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange), one could get a shortlist of 5-10. The social investing site then provides the history of the investor sharing the stock idea, and his or her past record in terms of accuracy and return. In addition, all the fundamental information about the stocks is made available, so is a technical charting tool.
In essence, what you get is a stock idea + fundamental analysis + technical charts + news to make up your mind if you need to play the stock or not. Happy Investing. |
